A-C

Alcove countertop:
A counter with walls on three sides (usually under 6').
 
Antique:
The sheen on copper that is produced by age and use. Available in various shades (light, medium, dark). See also: patina
 
Backsplash:
A vertical surface used to protect the wall behind a sink, stove, or countertop.
 
Banding:
A strap of metal added to a hood for decoration
 
Bar Sink:
A small sink normally used in a bar or lavoratory.
 
Bolt Seam:
A type of seam, typically on countertops, held together using bolts and flanges attached to the bottom of the counter. Where the seam is located, the wood substrate must be cut out or relieved to make space for the flanges. This type of seam is sealed using silicone caulk between the bolt flanges before setting the countertop.
 
Bullnose:
A rounded edge used on sinks and counters.
 
Butterfly Finish:
A pattern scratched into metal which resembles fluttering butterfly wings. This finish is very good for concealing both scratches and fingerprints.
 
Castle Wave Hood:
A style of hood with a tapered column shape and a contoured bottom.
 
Chateau Hood:
A graceful 'S' curve bell shape hood.
 
Clavos:
Decorative square rivets used with banding. Available in a wide variety of shapes and materials.
 
Conical Hood:
A simple elegant cone shaped hood.
 
Curved Pyramid Hood:
A pyramid-shaped hood with a curved front (and back in islands).
 
Cylinder Hood:
A cylindrical design with graceful arched front.

Dark Brown Antique:
A dark brown copper patina with fairly consistent color.
 
Decorative Ring:
An elegant addition to a round-stack hood.
 
Distressed:
A rustic finish intentionally used to create a worn or "beat up" look.
 
Double Miter Roll Hood:
A hood with sides that curve outwards and have angled corners.
 
Double Roll Hood:
A hood with sides that curve outwards.
 
Double Sweep Hood:
A hood with sides that curve inwards and have 90° corners.
 
Drainboard:
A board, integral to a sink that is inclined to drain into the sink. Can be built into countertops.
 
Drop-In Sink:
Sinks that normally "drop in" a hole cut in the counter top. The edge flanges on these sinks will rest on top of the counter top.
 
Extended Stack:
A non-structural (non-weight-supporting) extra-tall stack used in kitchens with tall ceilings.
 
Farmhouse Sink:
A sink with an exposed front face. This face is often adorned with decorative features such as hammering and towel bars.
 
Framed Opening:
A frame opening is designed to cover the wood substrate for an undermount sink. The opening is precisely matched to follow the shape of your sink.
 
French Bell Hood:
A graceful bell shape with top crown and bottom moulding.
 
French Country Crown Hood:
Similar to the French Sweep hood with the addition of a decorative top crown piece.
 
French Sweep Hood:
A hood with all sides curving inwards and and angled corners.
 
Half-Round Moulding:
Simple decorative moulding.
 
Horizontal Straps:
Straps with or without rivets.
 
Island:
A counter or hood that does not touch a wall, generally in the middle of a kitchen.
 
Jitterbug Finish:
A matte finish, composed of tiny swirling scratches, which reduces the visibility of scratches and fingerprints.

'L' Counter:
A counter that is in the shape of an "L."
 
Leaves:
Decorative brass leaves.
 
Lav (Lavatory) Sinks:
A small sink used in a lavatory or powder room.
 
Light Brown Antique:
A light brown copper patina with fairly consistent color.
 
Marine Edge:
A slightly raised lip on the edge of a counter that prevents spills on the counter from running off the edge.
 
Medium Brown Antique:
A medium brown copper patina with fairly consistent color.
 
Micrograin:
A finish with very fine, even lines. Also known as a "brushed" finish.
 
Miter Style Corners:
Corners which terminate at a point, as opposed to rounded Spherical Style corners.
 
Old World Patinas:
A special "patina" applied to copper which produces a wide variety of colorful effects.
 
Patina:
A sheen formed on copper and bronze by age and use. It can also be created by exposure to chemicals and heat. Is often valued aesthetically for its color.
 
Peninsula Countertop:
A counter which only touches a wall on one of the short sides.
 
Pot Rail:
A rail (like a towel bar) added to a hood which allows hooks and pots and pans to be hung from it.
 
Pyramid Hood:
A hood with angled flat sides resembling a pyramid.

Radius Construction:
A curved "corner" connection without any sharp edges. Allows for easier cleaning.
 
Retro Strap Package:
Our nickel strap package consists of 3-4 vertical straps and 2 horizontal straps. Often used with a color coat to match to look of a "retro" kitchen.
 
Reverse Hammered:
The reverse-side of our traditional hammered texture. Creates a unique visual effect.
 
Rivets/Clavos:
Rivets are small metal fasteners used to connect straps to hoods. Clavos are metal fasteners with large decorative heads.
 
Single Bowl Sink:
A sink with only one bowl.
 
Single Roll Hood:
A hood with flat sides and a rolled front.
 
Slope Front Hood:
A hood with flat sides and a sloped front face.
 
Spherical Hood:
A hood that is hand formed into a spherical shape.
 
Spherical Style Corners:
Corners that terminate with a rounded end. (As opposed to Miter Style corners.)
 
Standing Seams:
Welded seams made from folded metal.
 
Sweep Front Hood:
A hood with flat sides and a front that sweeps inward.

Tahoe Hood:
A "boxy" hood with banding.
 
Triple Bowl Sink:
A sink with three compartments or basins.
 
Tuscan Hood:
A tall, pyramid-shaped hood with banding.
 
Ultra-Low Profile Hood:
A simple hood designed for use in places where space is at a premium.
 
Under-Counter/Under-Mount Sink:
A sink that mounts completely under a countertop.
 
Vertical Straps:
Straps with or without rivets.
 
Vulcan Hood:
A symmetrical or offset cone hood with a choice of flat or sloped bottom profile.
 
Wax Rubbed:
A type of protective finish.
 
Welded Structural Stack:
A structural (weight-supporting) extra-tall stack used in kitchens with tall ceilings.
 
Wing Hood:
A graceful low-profile air-foil shaped hood.
